Your El Paso Central Business Association has been advocating for the The Paseo de las Luces Project and the dressing up of our downtown for the past twenty two years. Along with the City of El Paso we worked together in the completion of The Paseo de las Luces Project FINALLY having the ability to say “Bienvenidos” “Welcome” to our visitors from the South.
The Paseo de las Luces Project was created in the early 1990's as a way of enhancing the inbound corridor on South El Paso Street from the US/Mexico border to the Camino Real Hotel (then know as the Westin Hotel). The project piggybacked the restoration and rebuilding of the actual street surface and removal of the old trolley lines that used to be implanted in South El Paso Street.
The Paseo de las Luces Project includes the enhancement of the street, the planting of trees and an irrigation system to water them, the installation of trash receptacles along the corridor, new signage, new street ambient lighting in keeping with the historic nature of the street. Most importantly the lighting of all of the trees with twinkling lights that will shine all year long along the street in a festive and brilliant display of pride in our community and in welcoming people coming in to El Paso from the International Border.
